On the October 14, 2025, edition of WWE NXT, the new NXT Tag Team Champions, The Hardys, announced their first title defense. Matt and Jeff Hardy will face the former champions, Dark State, in a rematch. The match is scheduled to take place at the NXT Halloween Havoc event on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event will be held at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Arizona.
The Hardys won the championships from Dark State just two days earlier at the TNA Bound for Glory pay-per-view on Sunday, October 12. The Hardys captured the NXT titles, bringing the championships with them back to NXT.
The announcement of the rematch on NXT occurred during a backstage segment. The scene began with Je’Von Williams and Leon Slater discussing the match at Bound For Glory. Both men stated their belief that they would have won their match against each other if it wasn’t for interference from Dark State during the match.
As they were talking, The Hardys walked in and joined the conversation. They told Williams and Slater that Dark State only interfered because they view Williams and Slater as threats to them. It was then that Matt and Jeff Hardy confirmed they have a rematch against Dark State at Halloween Havoc.
The Hardys then told Williams and Slater that when they face Dark State at Halloween Havoc, they intend to get some payback for them. With the match now official, The Hardys are set to defend their newly won NXT Tag Team Championships against the team they defeated for the belts.
