Headbanger Mosh has reflected on his surprise return to WWE in 2016, describing it as the highlight of his career due to the presence of his son. After a 15-year absence from WWE television, Mosh and Thrasher were called back for a SmackDown Live appearance, an opportunity Mosh initially thought was a prank. Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Mosh explained how a text message from Road Dogg set the wheels in motion.
After years of being told “no” due to insurance reasons when asking for just one match so his son could see him perform in WWE, Mosh finally got the call. However, he was skeptical at first when he received a text asking about his availability.
“I got a text and it said, Hey, are you and Glenn available to do Smackdown Live on Tuesday night?” Mosh said. “And I’m like, okay, yeah, nice rib. Well, played like, Okay. And then immediately he called me, and it was Road Dog, and he goes, No, no, it’s not a rib. He goes, we got the storyline we’re doing. You know, we’d love to have you on Guyana, I couldn’t say yes fast enough.”
The return was momentarily stalled due to medical testing requirements, but a few days later, a call from Howard Finkel confirmed they were needed in Dallas. For Mosh, the match against Heath Slater and Rhyno was not about the paycheck or the exposure, but about fulfilling a dream for his son, who was 12 years old at the time.
“Hadn’t been there in 15 years on TV in 15 years, and now was the opportunity for my son to actually see me, but not only see me, but see it on TV, live in a WWE ring,” Mosh said. “That’s got to be the highlight of my career. Watching him watch me get in that ring was just, and then we had, you know, we had a decent match with Heath and Rhino.”
Mosh also shared the story behind a specific spot in the match where he performed a “dab,” a popular dance move at the time. Despite personally hating the move, he did it solely because his son asked him to.
“He goes, I want you to dab. I looked at him, and that’s when the DAB was big with Cam Newton. I looked at him and go, I hate the dab. I think it’s stupid, and I’m not doing a dab,” Mosh recalled. “He goes, that is exactly why I want you to do to dad… And the greatest part about is my wife at the time, she set up her phone behind Tyler and she videoed him watching me… the reaction of when I hit the dab, he was like, he was like, this… He turned his head this way, and I’m like, You teared up?”
