Hornswoggle has come to the defense of WWE’s decision to host John Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event rather than WrestleMania, citing Cena’s business-first mindset. He also shared a touching personal anecdote about his friendship with the 16-time World Champion.
A Business Decision For SNME
While some fans have expressed that Saturday Night’s Main Event feels “underwhelming” for a retirement match of Cena’s magnitude, Hornswoggle argued that it is a strategic move to boost ratings. He believes Cena is prioritizing the company’s growth over his own personal glory.
“John Cena has always been number one business first. What’s gonna pop a Saturday night’s Main Event rating more than that? What is going to pop any Saturday night’s Main Event rating more than that, there’s nothing… But to end it where they might need a bit of a bump with Saturday night’s Main Event. Can’t beat that business wise.”
Hornswoggle added that Cena is focused on the future of the company rather than soaking in the moment for himself. “Everyone’s gonna remember that night. And that’s, you know, another thing, let’s go back again. Now he’s gonna have NXT stars on this show. What is that saying business-wise about him? He’s not thinking now… This whole run should have done that. But the crazy thing with him is he still isn’t thinking that way, as he’s thinking about all right, what about this company when I’m gone?”
Believing The Retirement Is Real
When asked if he believes Cena will stay retired, Hornswoggle expressed confidence that this is truly the end, citing Cena’s track record of honesty with the fanbase.
