Brock Lesnar was expected back on WWE TV with his surprise return happening at the Royal Rumble, where he was supposed to compete in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match.
Changes
That was nixed after the sex trafficking lawsuit was filed against Vince McMahon and WWE, with a former WWE/UFC Heavyweight Champion being named in the filing. Lesnar is the only one to fit that bill. At one point this week, he was slated to fly out to Tampa, FL, for the show.
Coming out of the Royal Rumble, there has been speculation as to who replaced him in the bout that Cody Rhodes won.
The match
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted it was Bron Breakker who replaced Lesnar in the bout.
Dave Meltzer: “I think most people know this, but Brock Lesnar was scheduled to return to Rumble, and this was a change obviously that was made because of the lawsuits or the changes made probably Friday. Friday, most likely perhaps Saturday morning, and Bron breaker because of that, and the fact that the match was pretty much scripted out already. Bron Breaker essentially fulfilled the Brock Lesnar role he came in when Brock Lesnar was gonna come in. He threw up the guys Brock Lesnar was gonna throw out. It was you got thrown out exactly how Brock Lesnar was [supposed to be].”
Bryan Alvarez: “So it was Bron Breaker?”
Meltzer: “100%.”
Meltzer added that Bron was definitely not scheduled for the Rumble.
