WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this week as he continues to work towards being medically cleared for a return to the ring. According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite, the popular WWE star will be at the company’s training facility in Orlando, Florida, a significant step in his recovery process.
Mysterio has been out of action since April 2025, when he suffered a torn groin and a ruptured eardrum, injuries that required surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation period. His presence at the Performance Center strongly indicates that he is in the final stages of his recovery and could return to WWE television soon.
A return for Mysterio would be a major boost for WWE, as the company reportedly has significant plans for him within its ongoing partnership with AAA. A previous report from WrestleVotes Radio indicated that WWE wants to feature Mysterio in a “major role” as part of the AAA crossover. That report also noted that WWE is considering another co-branded AAA streaming event before the end of the year, with Survivor Series weekend in Mysterio’s hometown of San Diego being a heavily speculated possibility.
A match for that potential event could see Rey Mysterio challenge his son, Dominik Mysterio, for the AAA Mega Championship. Mysterio’s connection to AAA is a foundational part of his legendary career. He was a breakout star for the promotion in the early 1990s, where he, along with other luchadors like Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera, helped to popularize the high-flying style that would eventually take the wrestling world by storm.
