Inspiration Behind Mariah May’s WWE NXT Name

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May has officially been rebranded in WWE NXT. On the June 10th episode, it was revealed she will now be known as Blake Monroe.

The name was unveiled in a vignette styled after an old Hollywood newsreel, which played up her nickname, “The Glamour.” According to a report from Cory Hays, the name is a tribute, with “Blake” being the name of her niece. Obviously, “Monroe” is inspired by the iconic actress, Marilyn Monroe.

This move was expected after her debut on last week’s show, where she confronted NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne. Monroe has quickly been positioned as a major star, having recently signed with Paradigm Talent Agency, which also represents top WWE names like CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.

She is scheduled to have her official NXT contract signing on next week’s episode.
