Intercontinental Title number one contender’s match set for tonight’s WWE SmackDown

A new match has been announced for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown as Sheamus will have one more chance to earn another shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Title.

This afternoon, WWE confirmed a fatal four-way match for a future shot at the Intercontinental Title would take place on the show featuring Sheamus, Ricochet, Karrion Kross, and Solo Sikoa as the four participants.

Gunther and Sheamus faced off on last week’s SmackDown season premiere, a rematch from their bout at Clash at the Castle, which saw Gunther again retain the Intercontinental Title. The finish saw Gunther hit Sheamus with a Shillelagh while the referee’s attention was turned away. Also, at one point in the match, Gunther had tapped out, but the referee waved it off and said Gunther didn’t give up.

The following night at Extreme Rules, The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch) defeated Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci) in a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook. It featured Sheamus putting Gunther through a table.

Here is the updated card for SmackDown that is being held at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans:
