Io Shirai is reportedly ‘pretty much gone’ from WWE

There has been uncertainty surrounding Io Shirai’s future with WWE ever since it was reported by Dave Meltzer earlier this month that her contract is set to expire soon.

As previously reported, she will become a free agent next month if she doesn’t sign a new WWE deal. Io had told people in Japan that when her contract was up, she wanted to return to Japan and be closer to her family.

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer indicated that Shirai appears to be preparing to leave WWE.

Meltzer said, “Io Shirai’s pretty much got her foot out of the door. Pretty much gone.”

Shirai first signed with WWE in 2017. In addition to her run as NXT Women’s Champion, she’s also a former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion.

Shirai has been off television since April due to an injury in her last match happening at NXT Stand & Deliver.
