Is Rey Mysterio about to lose his mask?

It looks like WWE is teasing a hair vs. mask match for a future pay-per-view.

This week, Andrade tried to rip off Rey Mysterio’s mask when they wrestled on Monday Night Raw. Andrade tried to do the same thing last week.

WWE had plans to do a hair vs. mask match at WrestleMania 35 with Rey Mysterio and Andrade but those plans were scrapped. Now, it looks like they are leaning in that direction again.

“That was the original idea for WrestleMania and they dropped it,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

He added, “At one point, I was told that they don’t want to cut Andrade’s hair and they can’t take Rey’s mask.”

Andrade has people in management who are high on him but it’s taken a while for them to give him a real push on the main roster.

“He has people in power who are behind him, yet they don’t do anything with him. I guess now is the start of attempting to do something with him.” Meltzer said.

Perhaps, we’ll see bigger things for Andrade and Mysterio after SummerSlam.

WCW forced Mysterio to lose his mask during the dying days of the company. He made his WWE debut in 2002 under the mask and the company has been marketing him as “The Greatest Mask of All Time” so it would seem unlikely that they would want to take the mask off of him. A mask vs. hair match could be a draw as the main event match on a pay-per-view if WWE does the storyline correctly.
