Former WWE Superstar Jake Hager (Jack Swagger) has made the transition from the pro wrestling world to the land of MMA competition. He is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, ECW Champion, and United States Champion who’s stint with the company lasted from 2006 to 2017.
During a recent interview with WWE Hall of Famer Edge and former WWE World Champion Christian on the latest episode of E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Swagger reflected on a certain idea he pitched to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
This idea would’ve seen him leave and have an MMA fight then come back to the sports entertainment company. However, McMahon wasn’t into the idea and then communication broke down between Swagger and the WWE
“I knew I was gonna do MMA. Before I left, Vince caught me in the hallway and he told me that they were wasting me. I said, ‘Man, that’s awesome to hear. Thank you for saying that. I’ll be in your office next week with ideas. I pitched to him an idea about leaving and having to go fight MMA, and then come back, but have a little controversy between us or something. He didn’t really want to do anything about it.”
“After that – not with him – but with everyone else, communication sort of broke down, so I was like, ‘OK, it’s time to go.’ It was on my mind. I wanted to do it [pursue MMA] then.”
