During an interview with “Busted Open,” Jade Cargill opened up about her transition to WWE from AEW, highlighting the two biggest adjustments she had to make. She pointed to the demanding schedule and the importance of cultivating backstage relationships as major differences she had to learn quickly.
A Demanding Schedule
The first adjustment Cargill mentioned was the rigorous WWE schedule. “The schedule is demanding. I knew that coming into it, talking to Cody, talking to people who are already here… they told me how it was,” she said. “But you never know how something is until you’re actually in it.”
The Importance of Relationships
The second, and more significant, adjustment was learning the importance of the social dynamics backstage. “It’s not just what you do in the ring. It’s about the relationships you have,” Cargill explained. “And I’m the type of person where I come in, I do my job… I respect everyone, and I’m gonna leave like I have a family. I’m going home. It’s not like that. It’s not like that at all. It’s all about relationships in this game.”
Navigating a New Locker Room
Cargill described how she had to change her natural tendency to keep to herself, noting that many WWE talents have pre-existing bonds from their time in NXT. “A lot of people, they have those relationships from NXT, so they all have been on road trips together. They’ve grown together,” she said. “I’m coming in right now… Who does she think she is?” She acknowledged that her confident posture could be misread by people who don’t know her. “At the end of the day, I don’t control the settings. I’m just a player on the board.”
Contrasting with the AEW Environment
When asked if she missed anything about AEW, Cargill pointed to the unique environment created by wrestlers who came from the independent scene. “Working with people who came from the the Indies, it’s a whole different type of… wrestler,” she explained. “I was doing crazy things… that I loved it like, because it showed me every day, ‘Oh my gosh. I can do this. I can do that.'” She noted that WWE taught her a different formula, focusing on “when you do it, and where to put it,” to create bigger moments.
