Jade Cargill has revealed that she expected to face Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 42, not Rhea Ripley, and considers a match between the two to be a significant money-making opportunity.
Speaking on Complex Graps, Cargill was asked about the opponents she had envisioned for her first WrestleMania as defending champion. She said Ripley was on her list but was not the match she was actively anticipating heading into WrestleMania season.
“The opponent I thought I was going to face at Mania was the likes of Charlotte Flair,” Cargill said. “We have been teasing it for so long, and I think that is a money-making match. She is a queen and I am as well. I think we have such similar aesthetics sometimes that it is more of a who is really that queen. I did not really dream book Rhea as being the person I would have had my Mania match with this year.”
Cargill acknowledged Ripley’s status as a premier talent while making clear she views herself as equally elite. “She is the top girl, she is the number one girl in our company currently,” Cargill said. “She has placed at such a high position, and I am going to reach the top, the highest of heights within this company. Rhea was one of the dream matches I wanted to have, amongst others like Charlotte Flair.”
Despite the change from her original expectations, Cargill said she is heading into WrestleMania 42 with full confidence. “I am going balls to the wall,” Cargill said. “I have learned from my mistakes in the past. Rhea has never seen someone like me.”
Charlotte Flair has been largely absent from WWE programming in recent months. Cargill has since signaled that a match between the two remains very much on her radar for after WrestleMania 42.
