During a guest appearance on the “Rulebreakers with Saraya” podcast, former WWE star Jake Hager shared a humorous story about a time he had to “save” his former AEW stablemate Chris Jericho during a wild night out on a WWE tour in Abu Dhabi.
A Night Out with the Boys
Hager set the scene on a late night out with the rest of the WWE roster. “We were out in Abu Dhabi and having a night, and all the boys were together,” he began. “And there was this guy in there calling himself a sheik… acting like he has money and stuff.”
Jericho the Antagonist
According to Hager, Jericho did something to antagonize the man, who then began to escalate the situation in front of the other wrestlers. “Jericho does something to piss him off. And you know, as Jericho pisses him off even more,” Hager laughed. “So the sheik starts, like, putting money on Jericho’s head… in front of all the boys trying to look tough, like, 20,000.”
A Not-So-Royal Exit
The confrontation fizzled out, but the punchline to the story came when the group was leaving the venue. “Then we go outside, and everyone’s getting their cars. It got split up, and the sheik pulls off in like, a Toyota, like, sh*t car,” Hager recalled. “Like, ‘Oh, yeah. You’re a sheik, yeah? Oh, okay.'”
A Warning for Jericho
Hager said he gave his friend a warning about the potential consequences of his actions for their show the next day. “I was like that time. I was like, ‘Jericho, you’re gonna have a red dot on you, yeah, tomorrow at the show,'” he said.
Jericho’s Reputation
Host Saraya, who also knows Jericho well, confirmed Hager’s description of his personality. “He is an antagonizer,” she said. “He doesn’t go out of his way to do it. But if someone like, f*cks with him, then he’s just like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna f*ck with you now,’ and he antagonizes you.”
