Japanese wrestling legend to guest coach at WWE Performance Center

One Japanese wrestling legend is slated to travel to Orlando, Florida in May.

All Japan Pro Wrestling announced on Twitter that Jun Akiyama is heading to the WWE Performance Center to work as a guest coach at the training facility. He’ll be there from May 12 through the 22nd. The announcement also noted that he would also be meeting with Triple H, who oversees NXT.

Akiyama stepped down this past October as the president of All Japan Pro Wrestling. He now serves as the general manager of the promotion.

This comes after Yahoo Sports in Japan originally reported the story that Akiyama would be meeting with Triple H. It was noted in the report that the two stars met several times last summer during WWE’s tour of the country.

For months now, there has been speculation about a possible NXT promotion in Japan. If you recall, back in October, it was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had some interest in buying Pro Wrestling NOAH. However, a deal couldn’t be reached.

Instead, NOAH has since been bought by CyberAgent.
