WWE Hall of Famer JBL believes a return to the ring for The Undertaker is not out of the realm of possibility. Citing the legendary superstar’s incredible physical condition, JBL suggested that The Phenom could still perform at a high level and named a current champion as the perfect opponent for a potential comeback match.
Undertaker’s Retirement
The Undertaker officially retired from in-ring competition following his “Boneyard Match” against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. His career was celebrated with a “Final Farewell” ceremony at Survivor Series that same year. Since then, he has remained connected with WWE fans through his popular “1 deadMAN SHOW” tours.
Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL commented on The Undertaker’s current fitness level, noting that his training regimen is more advanced than what they did during their prime.
Possible Return
“I would think it’d be a possibility. He looks great. I mean, he looks great, and he’s in terrific shape,” JBL said. “And I know the type of training, he’s doing a lot of functional training…not just, you know, training, like going and doing some bench press, some squats, you know, the old power lifting, lifts that we all did… So his body’s moving well, he’s, you know, he can, I feel like he probably could still move or move as well as he’s done for 20 years. I mean, I think that’d be great to I’d love to see him come back for something.”
When asked who would be a suitable opponent, JBL immediately pointed to the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER, as the logical choice.
Ideal Opponent
“It would be awesome, you know. And the thing is, Gunther is an easy choice,” JBL stated. “You need a big, tough guy that can wrestle, that knows his way around, and you need a guy that can get heat on Undertaker, you know, you need, you know, Undertaker is a big guy, and he looks great now, and he’s still a really big guy. You need a guy like GUNTHER that can get heat on it. And so it makes perfect sense that GUNTHER would be the guy if Taker looking for somebody to come back.”
A match between The Undertaker and GUNTHER would pit two of the most respected and dominant superstars of their respective generations against one another. With GUNTHER currently holding the World Heavyweight Championship, a potential bout would have the highest possible stakes.
