JBL: Danhausen Is ‘A Freaking Mega Star’

JBL has weighed in on Danhausen’s continuing mainstream crossover, telling Something to Wrestle listeners that the WWE wrestler has caught fire in unprecedented fashion and predicting he will end up courtside at Madison Square Garden for the NBA Finals.

The conversation came up during the broader discussion of Danhausen’s recent involvement in the NBA Finals storyline, where the wrestler’s curse on the Cleveland Cavaliers became a talking point among fans.

“Cleveland pretty much got cursed when they signed James Harden, so that’s what ruined Cleveland before Danhausen. Danhausen, though, I think flushed them down the toilet. What a team that just freaking quit. How do you lose 30, 40 points when you get to that level? It’s just a complete lack of pride. But Danhausen, what a star. This has happened.”

He discussed his personal experience working with Danhausen.

“Me and Ron got to work with him in some signings that we had done. I was so impressed with his intellect, with his ability to be able to do things and put things together. Really enjoyed, me and Ron both really enjoyed working with him and doing some little videos with him. He has caught fire. Absolutely caught fire. This is awesome what he’s doing.”

JBL also talked about Danhausen appearing on ESPN broadcasts at New York Knicks games.

“That’s why this partnership with ESPN is so freaking big for professional wrestling. The opportunities it opens up for something like Danhausen. But again, you can give all the opportunities in the world. Danhausen created this himself. The kudos to that young man, he is a freaking mega star, and he deserves it.”

JBL also recalled his initial read on Danhausen’s WWE debut.

“He had his debut, and I thought it was horrible. I was with everybody else. I didn’t think it was that good. I knew he would be a star, at least I felt confident he would. I felt once people got to know him. It’s just so hard to see this and understand kind of what it is, even after you’ve seen it for several months. You really don’t know what it is. I think that’s part of the appeal of Danhausen, but I think when people saw it, they didn’t really understand it and thought, all, this thing’s terrible. I didn’t think it was that great, but I really felt like you give Danhausen the opportunity and some very creative people. Hunter is very good about characters like this, about helping characters like this. Not that Danhausen needs help, but Hunter is very good about setting the table for them to allow them to have this success.”
