JBL Names His Top Choices For John Cena’s Final Opponent

With John Cena’s farewell tour in full swing, WWE Hall of Famer JBL has weighed in on who should have the honor of facing the 16-time world champion in his final match. While legacy opponents are an obvious choice, JBL also suggested a few names who could be elevated by the monumental moment.

Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL first pointed to the biggest names possible for a dream match scenario. “I think Brock would be awesome. I also think Roman would be awesome. I think both those would be incredible matches,” he said. “But I think The Rock would I mean, that’s kind of it, because the rock kind of helped him turn heel… plus the rock’s the biggest movie star in the freaking world.”

However, JBL also looked at it from a traditional wrestling perspective, where a legend goes out by “paying it forward” and putting over a younger talent. From that standpoint, he had two surprising picks. “Jacob Fatu, to me, I think would be a great choice, because I don’t think people would expect it, and I think the match would be freaking amazing,” JBL stated, referencing Cena’s classic match with Umaga as a template. He also suggested another member of the Anoa’i family, “I think Jey Uso, you… would be good.”

The show’s host, Conrad Thompson, offered his own prediction for who will retire Cena: Logan Paul. JBL immediately agreed that it was a “great call.” He noted the immense heat and long-term storytelling potential it would create. “He was like, so much hay out of that you would get more out of that than anything you could possibly do,” JBL said about Paul potentially bragging about retiring Cena for years to come.

John Cena is expected to conclude his in-ring career in the coming months, with many anticipating his final match could take place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event PLE forecasted to be held in Boston, Massachusetts in December.
