The first time JBL met Danhausen, Ron Simmons made his mind up on the spot.
Asked about the Danhausen ice cream truck touring Minneapolis this weekend, JBL used the question to go back to their first encounter, on the latest episode of Something to Wrestle.
“Danhausen came up to me and Ron at a signing of mine. I think that was the first time I ever met him, and he came up to me and Ron. He wanted to do a video.”
“I’m certainly not going to speak for Ron, and Ron goes, I like that kid. And right away Ron said, we could do something with him.”
They did.
“We did a couple videos later with him and some different stuff, and it was fun. He was very creative. But you kind of knew this kid had something. A kid, he’s a grown man, kid to us. Something special about him.”
JBL said the reach he has built since is unlike anything he has watched happen.
“You see stuff like this, he does have something special about him. The Knicks embraced this guy. The NBA embraced him. ESPN embraced this guy. There’s something about Danhausen that is just phenomenal.”
“He’s already doing incredibly well. I think he’ll continue to do incredibly well because he’s a very smart guy.”
Danhausen debuted for WWE in February and faces Dominik Mysterio in a Human Monies on a Pole match on Night Two of SummerSlam.
Not everyone thinks the volume is sustainable. Matt Hardy said on The Extreme Life this week that WWE is close to overexposing him and that he would like to see Danhausen scaled back after this weekend, calling him a golden goose the company has been taking every egg from.
