JBL believes the tease surrounding WrestleMania 44’s location points to an international destination, and he has several cities in mind that he thinks could deliver something truly historic.
Speaking on Something To Wrestle, JBL was asked about Nick Khan’s comment at a recent town hall, where he told employees to wait until they hear the WrestleMania 44 announcement, suggesting the location would be something special.
“I don’t know. I’m interested. He really teased where they’re going to be for that WrestleMania. And no offense to Nashville, I love Nashville. I think it’s something bigger than Nashville. I think it’s overseas. It seems like an overseas thing. And if it is, you know, I think you gotta look at the big cities. I think you gotta look at London. Think you gotta look at Tokyo, and you gotta look at something like Sydney. I think would be the ones to me. But it might be something like Mumbai.”
“There are some real opportunities out there. I would love to be a fly on the wall and see who all is trying to get WrestleMania for that year,” JBL added.
He also offered some context for why he believes WWE may be eager to try an international market after WrestleMania 42, pointing to what he observed from fans in Las Vegas about the cost of the experience.
“I think there was travel fatigue in Vegas. I was out there for five or six days. I talked to a lot of fans. I think that was the destination. I’m not trying to make excuses for WWE, but the food is expensive. The difference in Vegas now than it was 20 years ago, when they made most of their money off gambling.”
It was outrageous how expensive it was. You go overseas, you get something like Sydney or London or Berlin or Mumbai, they’re going to sell whatever you put this in. Whatever you put WrestleMania in overseas, they’re gonna sell it out.”
