Jeff Hardy’s injury may force WWE to change plans for SmackDown Tag Team Titles next week

As previously noted, Jeff Hardy was injured at a live event over the weekend. The injury happened at the show in Madison, WI on 4/20. He has not wrestled since that show and WWE has not made any reference to an injury but he did appear at the 4/21 live event in Matt Hardy’s corner. Fans at the show on 4/21 noted that Jeff was limping worse than he usually does.

The severity of the injury is still unclear but it looks like it’s a right knee injury and he’s had knee issues since 2015 when he crashed his dirt bike. Hardy has been dealing with a torn PCL for years.

There are several notes on Hardy in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Dave Meltzer was told that Jeff is playing things safe while friends hope he is not terribly injured.

It does look like he and brother Matt Hardy will have to drop the SmackDown Tag Team Titles soon because the belief among people in the company is that Jeff will need to get surgery this coming week. If WWE plans to do an angle this Tuesday night to get the titles off of them then that might explain why they are keeping the injury a secret.

I should add that a company source told me that the plan is to take the titles off of Matt and Jeff soon. At this point, I don’t know if the plan is to do a title switch on SmackDown Live or if they plan on vacating them and crowning new champs at a later date.
