On his “My World” podcast, Jeff Jarrett expressed surprise regarding recent reports that WWE has signed several top Lucha Libre AAA talents, including Alberto Del Rio and Dr. Wagner Jr., to new WWE contracts following WWE’s parent company TKO acquiring AAA. Jarrett questioned the necessity of new deals if proper due diligence was done during the acquisition.
“When I heard that, I asked myself self, does that mean every AAA talent contract was non-transferable?” Jarrett pondered. “I just assumed, in the acquisition, they were all under WWE deals moving forward, that must not be the case… when you acquire a property that’s been 30 years old, I would assume the level of sophistication that TKO is… I just would think that all of this would have been done pre-acquisition.” He found it surprising if WWE needed to renegotiate or sign talent individually after the purchase was complete.
While discussing the reported signings, Jarrett and co-host Conrad Thompson noted the absence of Sam Adonis from the list. Jarrett passionately endorsed Adonis, an American wrestler fluent in both English and Spanish with deep experience in Mexico, as a crucial asset for WWE’s integration with AAA.
“His biggest asset by far is his bilingual ability,” Jarrett stated. “It’s one thing for a Mysterio or Phantasma or Dom… that can speak Spanish, but, but, but it just cuts different with Sam’s skill set… I just think an American with his skill set is… if it rights [fits] in the DNA of the AAA WWE relationship, I just can’t think of a better American to be on the WWE AAA roster. That’s out the easy.” Thompson added that Adonis being a second-generation wrestler whose brother works for WWE further strengthens the case. Jarrett concluded he believes Adonis joining the venture is a “foregone conclusion.”
