Jelly Roll knocked out The Miz with a punch on Friday’s SmackDown in Phoenix after a segment that began with Danhausen cursing Miz backstage and escalated into a confrontation with Kit Wilson.
The Curse
The segment started backstage when Danhausen stopped The Miz and handed him a shirt to wear for the MizTV segment. Danhausen then pitched an idea to replace MizTV with his own talk show. After a string of exaggerated “reallys,” Danhausen told Miz he was cursed.
When SmackDown returned from commercial, Miz was in the ring and his microphone was not working. The curse appeared to be in effect.
Jelly Roll Rejects Miz as a Mentor
Miz eventually got things going and brought out his guest, Jelly Roll. The musician said he was in Phoenix because he was not going to miss his two friends main-eventing WrestleMania signing their contract in one of his favorite cities.
Miz told Jelly Roll he sees potential in him and that Jelly needs a mentor. He said that mentor is him, and all Jelly had to say was yes.
Jelly Roll said no.
Miz was visibly shocked. Jelly Roll explained that Miz has a history of stabbing his partners in the back.
Miz pivoted to flattery, calling Jelly Roll a “good old redemption story.” He then turned it personal. “Everyone celebrates the story, but no one talks about the person behind that story,” Miz said. “Two years ago at SummerSlam, you fell on your obese butt and couldn’t get up. I reached out my hand and picked you up. You knew you had to change your life.”
Jelly Roll fired back. “You think you are responsible for me losing 250 pounds? I’m the one who changed my own life, and you should be disgusted with yourself for thinking that, Mike,” he said.
Miz responded: “I liked you when you were fat.”
Jelly Roll told Miz he would whip his ass. Miz called himself a locker room leader. Jelly Roll called Miz an ass.
Kit Wilson Gets Involved
Kit Wilson of A-Town Down Under interrupted and told Miz to stop wasting his time. Wilson said the problem was not with Miz mentoring Jelly Roll. The problem was Jelly Roll himself.
Jelly Roll said things were getting weird. He told Wilson he likes him, then did Wilson’s signature pose and gyration, drawing a reaction from the crowd.
Wilson was not amused. He went after Jelly Roll’s past, citing face tattoos and criminal charges. Wilson accused Jelly Roll of building a brand on bad behavior and then mocking Wilson during a serious conversation.
Wilson escalated further. “You lose 300 pounds and you expect these people to cheer you like a hero. You are running away from who you are and you are fatphobic,” Wilson said. “You inspire people? You sicken me. You promote an unhealthy beauty standard. Jelly Roll is toxic.”
The Knockout
Jelly Roll got in Wilson’s face. Wilson shoved him. Miz stepped between them and held Wilson back. Jelly Roll threw a punch aimed at Wilson, but Wilson moved and the punch connected flush with Miz, knocking him out cold.
Wilson left the ring while Jelly Roll stood over an unconscious Miz.
What’s Next
Jelly Roll has been increasingly involved in WWE programming since his tag team match with Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2025. He has publicly stated he wants another WWE match, and sources have indicated to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select that discussions are underway for a WrestleMania 42 appearance.
After the commercial break, Kit Wilson told Miz that he would talk to Nick Aldis if Jelly Roll wants a fight. Danhausen appeared. He told Miz there’s only one thing he needs to do to reverse the curse. Miz said, “there’s no curse.”
WrestleMania 42 takes place April 18-19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
