Jerry Lawler talks about old school wrestling vs. sports entertainment and Andy Kaufman

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler recently spoke with The Memphis Commercial Appeal to promote upcoming WWE events in Tennessee. Here are the highlights.

OnĀ old school wrestling vs. sports entertainment:

“When you talk to guys like me, who were around during that old school era, and actually lived and worked through the change, usually most of the guys have mixed emotions about it. Most of them would say it’s better the old way. But you can’t argue with success.”

On his program with Andy Kaufman:

“The thing with Andy Kaufman and I was the first time that wrestling did a cross over into the entertainment world,” says Lawler. “Sometimes I look back and say, I may not like all of this ‘sports entertainment’ but I may be partly responsible for it.”
