Jerry “The King” Lawler has a new role in WWE

As noted last night, WWE has made changes to their announce teams. Lawler is the odd man out on Smackdown but he will remain with the company. WWE announced the following:

In addition to the commentary booth updates on Raw, SmackDown Live and more, WWE Hall of Famers Booker T and Jerry “The King” Lawler will bring their decades of experience in sports-entertainment to recurring Pre-Shows and Kickoffs as key analysts, among other names still to be announced. Stay with WWE.com for additional updates.

I guess the silver lining for Lawler is that he will no longer need to travel to TV every week. Lawler is one of WWE’s longest tenured on-air personalities. He has been with the company since 1993 and, besides quitting the company for a few months in 2001 and 2012 after suffering a heart attack, his voice has been a staple of WWE programming.
