Je’Von Evans Responds To Kevin Nash’s Apology

WWE Raw superstar Je’Von Evans recently utilized social media to address WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash following a period of public criticism regarding his on-screen persona. Evans, who brands himself as “The Young OG,” posted a message on Instagram stating: “Just Wanna Apologize Real Quick….Im Sorry For Being The Best In Da Game Right Now!! Elimination Chamber Bout To……Ya’ll Finish The Rest”. The post notably featured the “nWo Wolfpac” theme song.

During an episode of Nash’s “Kliq This” podcast, Nash offered a critical assessment of Evans’ current presentation on the WWE main roster, Nash acknowledged Evans’ athletic skill, stating he “throws a good punch” and “sells good.” He questioned the “happy-to-be-here” nature of his character. Nash stated: “He’s an incredible athlete. He’s a little bit too f**ing Mr. Bojangles for me. I wish he was a little bit more urban. I understand it’s Netflix. I understand there’s a big f**ing world out there besides the one that f***ing 66-year-old Detroit boy Kevin Nash wants, but I just want him to have a little bit of an edge”.

The use of the term “Mr. Bojangles” resulted in immediate pushback from fans and industry figures who characterized the remark as a racial stereotype. The name is historically associated with Black minstrel performers and carries a specific negative connotation within the Black community. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T addressed the remarks on his own podcast, noting: “We, as Black people, look at that term a certain way, and it’s just not the term toward a Je’Von Evans. I don’t think it was out of any malice…because Kevin Nash is one of my best friends”.

Following the intensification of the backlash on social media, Nash issued a formal apology on February 18, 2026, via his X account. He wrote: “I apologize for the use of the term Mr. Bojangles, it was in poor taste and obviously offensive. I just see talent being pushed in a direction that I disagree with. He should be the male version of Sol Ruca. More contemporary than urban. It’s funny how I’m usually the only person who pays attention to the development of black talent”. Nash’s statement also included a reference to the literary character Uncle Tom, arguing that the character is often misunderstood as he was “whipped to death for helping free two female slaves”.

This social media exchange occurs during the most significant period of the 21-year-old’s career. On the February 16, 2026, episode of Monday Night Raw, Evans defeated Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio and former World Champion Gunther in a Triple Threat match. The victory officially qualified Evans for the Men’s Elimination Chamber match scheduled for February 28, 2026, in Chicago.

Evans now joins a field of participants including Randy Orton, LA Knight, and Cody Rhodes, with the winner earning a World Championship match at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
