Hall of Fame manager Jim Cornette recently lauded Paul Heyman for what he described as one of Heyman’s best promotional segments ever, delivered on a recent episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. The promo in question involved Heyman confronting World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso, setting the stage for a championship match later that evening against Seth Rollins.
Speaking on his “Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru” podcast, Cornette detailed his admiration for Heyman’s impassioned delivery. The segment began after Jey Uso called out Logan Paul, only for Paul Heyman to appear. Cornette noted the crowd’s immediate engagement: “The people do his … My name is Paul Heyman, and it echoes. They love that. And he talks his way to the ring.”
Cornette particularly highlighted Heyman’s emotional intensity as the promo progressed, stating, “This is when he gets cracked up. This is one of the best things he’s ever done.” He then recounted Heyman’s words to Jey Uso regarding his loyalty shifts and perceived betrayals involving CM Punk and Roman Reigns: “He cranked up on Jey Uso by telling you think I betrayed your family, oh no, no, no, no, my best friend, CM Punk… put me in a position where it would sabotage my relationship with Roman Reigns… I picked a stray big dog on the island of irrelevancy and turned him into the travel chief. And he blew it. He blew it, not me, then he disappeared and left me to get put through a table… And did he worked himself. You blame me? Screw you and screw you fans for booing me. And he was just his eyes were popping out. And it was f***ing great, right?”
Cornette emphasized the believability of Heyman’s performance, even within the context of a scripted show. “Technically, he was very, he’s making sure correct in everything. He said,” Cornette observed. “The indignance was not, not, well, it was written, not fake. But, you know, it was a work, but it was, you could feel the… indignance, it seemed to hang heavy over him.” The promo successfully set up the main event, with Jey Uso accepting Seth Rollins’ challenge for that night, a development Cornette also praised, ultimately giving “applause for Paul” for the segment’s execution and impact.
