WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry over at his website where he gives his thoughts on various topics. During the blog, Ross commented on the ROH World Championship Match between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reily, which saw O’Reily win the championship from Cole. ““I’m of the mindset that one of the toughest challenges in the business might well be closing the show at an ROH PPV which is what Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly were booked to do Friday night.” Ross said that Cole and O’Reilly delivered as the top professionals that they are. He praised them for selling a storyline during their match and allowed him to ride along with them on their journey, which he embraces.
Switching gears, Ross brought up the main event of Sunday’s TLC PPV event, which was headlined by AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. “AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose was, arguably, as strong a bout as WWE has had in 2016 and the two, skilled performers ability to utilize all the toys of a TLC match were incredible.” Ross added that they sold extremely well and that helped Ross feel what they were experiencing which is always imperative for the talents and the broadcasters to embrace with the viewers. He thinks that when talents are doing that, it allows the announcers to better get those talents over. Ross believes that Styles is the second coming of the great Shawn Michaels and they both possess natural, innate timing that can’t be taught. “Styles, for my money, is the best in ring talent in the business today,” Ross added that Styles is the type of athlete that WWE can build a brand around, and he can see WWE turning Ambrose heel sooner than later. He hopes that WWE will give Ambrose and Styles a nice bonus for their performance at the event. Ross stated that WWE is obviously enamored with the James Ellsworth persona and presentation, so he hopes that Ellsworth is fully aware of what a break that he is receiving.
