Back in 2016 WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross signed a deal with AXS TV to be a part of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s weekly program, doing commentary work alongside Josh Barnett. In addition to his voiceover work for the shows, Ross also did commentary for NJPW’s live U.S. shows as well. Ross, who is still signed to WWE through March, is unable to re-sign with AXS TV.
Ross’ deal with WWE prevents him from signing a new deal with AXS until he’s a free agent come April. Unfortunately, this prevents him from calling big upcoming shows such as Wrestle Kingdom 13. WWE signed Ross in 2017, who did commentary work for The Undertaker’s match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33, as well as several other events like the WWE Mae Young Classic and Raw 25.
Ross recently confirmed on Twitter that he will be recording his final session with AXS TV before his contract expires. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’m reluctantly heading to
#LAX this week for my final voiceover session with @AXSTV as these 3 shows will take us to the end of the year when my contract ends. Thanks @Adamswift34 @dannyzack & the entire crew. More Wednesday on a new..”
