With just under two weeks to go before SummerSlam in Brooklyn, New York on August 19th, WWE has been portraying Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a rather negative light.
“The Beast” has shown a constant disrespect for the business of professional wrestling, its fans, the Universal Title and the WWE itself. On last week’s show he went as far as attacking Raw General Manager Kurt Angle and his own advocate, Paul Heyman. Fans are also upset at the potential of Lesnar retaining at SummerSlam before taking off for several months to prepare for a UFC heavyweight title fight with Daniel Cormier next year.
WWE Hall Of Fame Jim Ross recently spoke to WrestleZone about Lesnar’s SummerSlam build. He said he doesn’t understand WWE trying to portray Lesnar as having no respect for the company:
“In hindsight it’s easier for us all to judge, myself included. Everybody likes to be a Monday morning quarterback and since we are recording this on Monday morning… I guess it’s quarterback time. I would not have taken that approach. I do not believe in doing a negative sell.
“I just don’t think you get anything out of it. I think it’s the wrong kinds of emotions that you are attempting to create. I believe that, in my view, I would have taken a different route. That doesn’t mean that their route is wrong it just means that I don’t get it yet.”
