Jim Ross Gives His Take on WWE’s “Unreal” Behind-the-Scenes Series

WWE’s upcoming Netflix docuseries, WWE Unreal, promises to take fans behind the curtain of the company’s creative process, and the project has already drawn strong opinions. On his Grilling JR podcast, legendary announcer Jim Ross weighed in on the controversial show.

A Divided Reaction

Co-host Conrad Thompson laid out the opposing viewpoints on the series. He noted that Jake “The Snake” Roberts had called the show “foolish,” believing the damage it would do to the business would outweigh any money made. Conversely, former WWE superstar Ryback praised it, saying, “I truly believe WWE Unreal is one of the best things for wrestling and wrestlers… It’s time fans and dirt sheets stop the hate and understand what this is. It’s no different than movies.”

JR’s Perspective

When asked for his opinion, Ross sided with the more positive take, expressing his surprise at Ryback’s thoughtful perspective. “Well, I’m happy and surprised that Ryback has been so objective,” Ross stated. “I think he’s right in a lot of his points.”

However, the Hall of Famer remained cautious about the show’s overall impact, preferring to wait and see the final product before passing a definitive judgment. “It’s hard to say what’s going to… how it’s going to be until you see it,” Ross concluded. “But it’s got a lot of ways to go, so hopefully it’ll be successful for them.”

WWE Unreal is a multi-part docuseries that will give fans an unprecedented look inside the creative process and backstage operations of WWE. The series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix at the end of July.
