On the latest episode of “Grilling JR” on AdFreeShows.com, Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson cover the NWA Starrcade 1987 show. That show took place on November 26, 1987 from Chicago’s UIC Pavillion. This show was up against WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view.
Ross covered all of the matches on the show including the World Title Steel Cage main event between Ric Flair and Ronnie Garvin, Dusty Rhodes vs. Lex Luger, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard vs. The Road Warriors and more. Ross also gives his take on some of the behind-the-scenes wrestling news stories from that timeframe.
Jim Ross talking about Larry Zbyszko: “I like Larry. I tried to get Larry a job as a broadcaster in WWE. I don’t think Vince liked Larry. That could have gone back to a payoff issue when Larry was working with Bruno.”
Ross gave his viewpoint on The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express vs Midnight Express with Jim Cornette feud: “I love these two teams. I’ve never had in my career a tag team scenario I love more than the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express – Midnight Express rivalry. I’ve called a plethora of their matches. I’ve never seen a bad one. They had some great nights without a doubt. They deserve it (to be in the WWE Hall of Fame). The only thing that is going to keep them out is Cornette’s demeanor or his opinions on certain things. As far as their work is concerned, if the WWE Hall of Fame was based solely on work, bell to bell, in-ring performance, how do you even consider The Midnight Express not worthy? You can’t. However, the WWE Hall of Fame isn’t all about that. It’s also very politically affected. Corny being Corny, and I’m not knocking Corny, but his attitude is what will slow down the process. I don’t think it will kill it, but I do think it’s going to slow down the process for a team that should already be in.”
