Legendary announcer Jim Ross believes that the wrestling world has not seen the last of Vince McMahon. On his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross agreed with the sentiment that McMahon is his “own worst enemy” at times but stated his belief that the former WWE Chairman will eventually make another “foray into that world.”
The conversation began when host Conrad Thompson brought up recent reports about McMahon attempting to purchase the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and the general belief among industry executives that he wants to return to promoting. Ross offered his perspective on McMahon’s character. “He can be his own worst enemy. He’s very hard-headed, very stubborn,” Ross said. “He’s also still very brilliant.”
It is this brilliance and McMahon’s deep-rooted connection to the business that leads Ross to believe he will not remain retired permanently. “I just don’t think we’ve heard the last of him in the pro wrestling space,” Ross predicted. “I don’t know where it’s headed. I don’t have any inside information, but I just think that he hasn’t sung his last song.”
Ross explained that wrestling is simply too ingrained in McMahon’s identity for him to stay away. “Well, he made his mark in pro wrestling. So I would say that would be my first inclination that, yes, pro wrestling will be another place for him to… land,” he continued.
“What happens? Who the hell knows?” Ross pondered. “But he certainly hasn’t forgotten what he’s learned. He’s still brilliant. He’s still got it, quite frankly… It’s in his blood Conrad, it’s what he built. He’s the godfather of that whole genre. So why wouldn’t one assume that he’s going to make another foray into that world.”
