Joe Hendry has revealed his reasons for joining WWE following his successful stint at TNA Wrestling. Last year, Hendry became one of the biggest talking points in the pro wrestling industry after his theme song went viral online. Following a strong TNA World Championship reign and multiple cameo appearances on WWE NXT and the main roster, Hendry recently signed a new contract with WWE. Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, he discussed his decision.
‘Right now I am obsessed with getting better at wrestling, and trying to be the absolute best professional wrestler that I can be,’ Hendry ended.
Joe Hendry Explains Why He Chose WWE
Explaining his decision to ‘evolve as a wrestler’, he continued, ‘That is, for me, the primary reason why I chose to come to NXT was to evolve as a wrestler. Because I really feel I can take this all the way, and the Performance Center has the tools for me to do that. I am obsessed with getting better, so I actually find it super hard to switch off from the wrestling business and relax.’
Still early into his WWE career, Hendry has already earned a WrestleMania match against Randy Orton and is reportedly signed to a main-roster–level deal despite currently competing in NXT. The move marks a significant shift for the star, who made a name for himself as a top babyface in TNA Wrestling.
TNA President Comments On Joe Hendry’s Departure
Recently, while speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, TNA President Carlos Silva opened up in detail about Joe Hendry’s WWE signing.
‘Joe [Hendry], you’ll see on NXT all the time. As part of our partnership, you may see Joe come back and be on TNA shows because that’s part of what we do with WWE and NXT, we share wrestlers. I’m super happy for Joe. Super happy for WWE. We all kind of worked on it together. Joe is a great talent and a super good guy.’
