WWE Champion and Hollywood star John Cena is currently in New Jersey filming his next major project, a Netflix movie titled
Little Brother, according to a report from Amy Kuperinsky at NJ.com. Production on the new comedy is underway, with recent scenes being filmed in Montclair.
A Family Comedy
The movie revolves around a prominent real estate agent, played by the 48-year-old Cena, whose life is thrown into chaos when his younger, more erratic brother, played by comedian and actor Eric André, shows up unexpectedly. The film is being directed by Matt Spicer, who previously directed the 2017 dark comedy Ingrid Goes West, and was written by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, known for their work on films like Yes Man.
This project is just the latest in a string of major roles for Cena. He most recently appeared alongside Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra in the Amazon action-comedy Heads of State, which was released on July 2.
A Busy Summer for Cena and Co-Stars
The production of Little Brother is happening in the same town and on the same day as another Netflix movie produced by Adam Sandler. Cena’s co-star, Eric André, also has a role in Sandler’s other big project, Happy Gilmore 2, which filmed in New Jersey last year and is set to be released on Netflix on July 25.
André, host of “The Eric André Show” on Adult Swim, is an Emmy-winning actor and comedian who has starred in films like Netflix’s hidden-camera comedy Bad Trip and voiced Azizi in Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King.
While his Hollywood career continues to thrive with projects like Little Brother, John Cena remains at the top of the wrestling world as the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. He is currently scheduled to defend his title against the 2025 King of the Ring winner, Cody Rhodes, in the main event of the upcoming SummerSlam premium live event on August 3rd.
