John Cena discussed his post-show habits and friendships during his appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. When asked about his go-to drink, Cena referenced a specific tradition he shares with fellow WWE Superstar Sheamus.
“Pint of Guinness, fella,” Cena said. “Oh yes. Pint to the plane. Thank you, Sheamus. Pint to the plane,” Cena said, mimicking Sheamus’s catchphrase.
Cena described this ritual as a way to decompress with “the boys” after a show before traveling to the next destination. “I’ll have a cheeseburger and a pint to the plane with the boys, and it’ll be great,” Cena stated.
Shifting Priorities
Cena used this anecdote to illustrate a broader shift in his lifestyle. He admitted that earlier in his career, he was so focused on fitness and “the hustle” that he would bring his own pre-prepared food to restaurants, refusing to indulge in the local cuisine or social aspects of dining.
“Early on in my life, I would bring my own food to restaurants. Now I’ve negotiated a way to enjoy time and enjoy where I sit and enjoy the creations of the chef and drink a nice bottle or have a nice beverage,” Cena explained.
He noted that he now “leans into” enjoying these moments without feeling guilty, viewing them as essential for maintaining connection in his life—a contrast to his previous mindset which he described as “hustling with no real backbone”.
