At one point in time, John Cena was the biggest star that the company had. However, over the last few years, Cena has taken a big step back from WWE as he has put his full efforts into his acting career.
The former WWE Champion took part in a Q&A at Penguin Random House BookCon 2019 this past weekend. During the Q&A session, he was asked who could be the next big star.
This is where Cena said that he thinks the dynamic of the program is changing as for the longest time there has been one top star but that is changing due to the audience being too diverse. He brought up his own experience as half the fans liked him while the other half did not. He thinks this is all due to there being a diverse audience.
“I don’t think there’s a universal figure that will lead the company forward. I think as the company grows, and especially expands globally, you’re going to have a Super Friends of the WWE.” Cena would add, ”So, I believe that I was kind of the last of that. The landscape has changed so much that it’s now of a more group effort rather than an individual effort.”
