Days after being laid out by a returning Brock Lesnar to close out SummerSlam, John Cena has broken his silence on the shocking attack and what it means for his ongoing retirement tour.
John Cena’s “They Deal ‘Em, I Play ‘Em” Philosophy
While speaking to Adam’s Apple, Cena was asked about the chaotic end to SummerSlam. He responded with his long-standing philosophy that he does not call the shots in WWE, but rather plays the part he is given.
“I’ve been saying the same thing for 25 years. They deal ’em, I play ’em,” Cena said. “I’m just really excited. We got like 12 of these things left. I think SummerSlam was an indication from the audience where everybody kind of knows we’re closing our book. And just because I close my book in December, that doesn’t mean the WWE closes its books. They got to continue their programming going forward. So, they’re just trying to make the most exciting show for the fans, man. I got a dozen of them left.”
A Brock Lesnar Showdown On Cena’s Retirement Tour
Cena acknowledged that fans at SummerSlam seemed to realize his in-ring career is nearing its end. “The Beast’s” return now sets the stage for a massive showdown. It has been previously said by Triple H that Lesnar was on Cena’s personal wishlist of opponents for his final run only for WWE to announce during Raw that it was Nick Khan, who reached out to Lesnar three weeks ago about returning. WWE’s legal team reportedly cleared Lesnar four weeks ago in the Janel Grant lawsuit. The road now appears to be leading toward a major match between the two legends, possibly at the Clash in Paris premium live event later this month.
The next chapter in John Cena’s retirement tour and his newly reignited rivalry with Brock Lesnar may continue on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Cena is slated to appear on the show, which will mark their first time in the same ring since the shocking attack at SummerSlam.
