John Cena responds to CM Punk about anniversary of their Money in the Bank title match

Earlier this week marked the anniversary of the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view event in 2011 that was headlined by a classic match between John Cena and CM Punk for the WWE Title.

This match had a ton of buzz at the time as Punk was fresh off his pipebomb promo and had the support of his hometown crowd at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

WWE did a storyline at the time where Punk’s contract was expiring with WWE and they made it seem like Punk was leaving with the WWE Title. WWE brought him back a few weeks later so they could do the rematch at SummerSlam.

Punk reflected on the anniversary of the match by writing the following:

“I did a thing nine years ago.  Couldn’t have done it without @JohnCena, @WWEArmstrong and most importantly the fans. That crowd, that atmosphere is something I’ll never forget. Thank you all. #MITB.”

On Sunday, Cena responded to the comments made by Punk by writing the following:

“I bet on myself that night, the usual amount. Not a smart wager choosing the guy who can’t wrestle over the best in the world, but I’d like to think we all won that night. Thank you for allowing me to be part of something so many were entertained by.”
