As seen on this week’s episode of Smackdown Live, John Cena returned to confront AJ Styles in the opening segment of the show. Cena, who has been off WWE TV since SummerSlam, declared his intentions to win back the WWE World Championship. Cena said that his goal is to become the 16-time Champion. That would tie “Nature Boy” Ric Flair’s world title record. The segment was interrupted by Dean Ambrose and that led to a verbal exchange between Cena and Ambrose.
Shane McMahon came out to the ring and announced that AJ Styles would be defending the WWE World Championship against John Cena and Dean Ambrose in a Triple Threat match at No Mercy.
WWE No Mercy will take place on Sunday, October 9 in Sacramento, CA’s Golden 1 Center. No Mercy was a monthly pay-per-view from 1999 to 2008 and was brought back this year as a Smackdown-only PPV.
