John Cena just scored another Hollywood film role.
Deadline reported today that the former WWE Champion is joining the cast of a new political thriller movie that is titled, “The Independent.”
Also slated to star in the film are Kathy Bates, Brian Cox, and Jodie Turner-Smith. The project is set to start filming in November of this year in New York City.
The plot of the film notes it is set during “the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election in history,” and “follows an idealistic young journalist (Turner-Smith) who teams up with her idol (Cox) to uncover a conspiracy that places the fate of the election, and the country, in their hands.”
Cena and Bates both play Presidential candidates. Amy Rice will direct it while it is written by Evan Parter.
Ryan Cunningham of Anonymous Content, Sam Bisbee of Park Pictures, and Thea Dunlap are producing the film alongside Caddy Vanasirikul of The Exchange and Evan Parter.
So far this year, Cena has starred in films such as “F9,” Suicide Squad,” and “Vacation Friends.”
