John Cena to star in ‘Suicide Squad’ spinoff series ‘Peacemaker’ on HBO Max

John Cena has landed another acting gig that has ties to the DC Universe.

The former WWE Champion is slated to portray the character Peacemaker in the upcoming “The Suicide Squad” film that will be released on August 6, 2021.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Cena will star in a spinoff series of the film, “Peacemaker,” that will air on HBO Max, which is HBO’s new streaming service.

The first season of the series, which is described as an action-adventure-comedy, will have eight-episodes and be about the origins of the character, a man who believes in peace no matter the cost.

James Gunn, the writer and director of Suicide Squad and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, will be writing and directing the series. Cena is also slated to be a co-executive producer of the series. Production is set to start in early 2021.

Cena and Gunn took to Twitter to comment on the exciting news.

Cena wrote, “Working alongside @JamesGunn on #SuicideSquad was an absolute masterclass in how to best bring beloved characters to life in a new and fun way. I cannot wait for the #DCUniverse to experience more of absurdity that is the Peacemaker in this new project on @hbomax!!!”

Cena will also be appearing in the latest Fast & Furious installment, “F9,” that is scheduled to be released in April 2021.
