John Cena wrestled after WWE SmackDown went off the air

The fans in Cleveland, Ohio were treated to a dark match featuring John Cena after WWE Friday Night SmackDown went off the air.

After the closing segment on FOX, it was Cena teaming up with Rey and Dominik Mysterio against Roman Reigns and The Usos. The babyface team won but there was no physical interaction between Cena and Reigns. In fact, they had Reigns not do much in the match so they could save the Reigns vs. Cena interaction for SummerSlam.

On tonight’s SmackDown, Reigns declined Cena’s challenge to wrestle for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam but he did accept a challenge from Finn Balor. Presumably, the match with Balor will be happening on a future episode of SmackDown and the match will Cena will be made at some point in the next few weeks.

Cena will be wrestling on several live events in August as part of the “Summer of Cena” tour being promoted to bring fans back to shows. Cena is expected to leave again to film a movie after SummerSlam.
