John Cena wants to repay the favor. At Saturday Night’s Main Event last night, WWE announced that a tournament will determine who faces John Cena in his final match on December 13, confirming an earlier report from Dave Meltzer.
Cena commented on the news on Sunday via social media. “For over two decades, I have tried to make the most of every opportunity I’ve been presented. On December 13th, I’d like to repay the favor. The Last Time is Now Tournament begins next Monday in Boston!”
The Tournament and Cena’s Final Opponent
The 16-man tournament is set to begin on the November 10 episode of Raw in Cena’s hometown of Boston. It will feature competitors from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and possibly “some guys who don’t even work here”. The winner will earn the right to face Cena in his retirement match at the Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C. on December 13.
In terms of who could come away with the victory, Meltzer reported that WWE has chosen GUNTHER as Cena’s final opponent.
A Title On The Line?
There is also a possibility that a championship could be on the line in Cena’s final match. Meltzer noted earlier this month that a plan was in place for Cena to defeat Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental title at Survivor Series. That event takes place in Mysterio’s hometown of San Diego on November 29.
That plan remains a possibility, as Dominik Mysterio successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship last night at Saturday Night’s Main Event. He defeated Penta and Rusev in a Triple Threat match after using a ring hammer to strike the bell, causing Rusev to prematurely break a submission hold.
For over two decades, I have tried to make the most of every opportunity I’ve been presented. On December 13th, I’d like to repay the favor.
