John Cena made his long-awaited return to WWE TV this week on Friday Night SmackDown in Boston, MA.
Cena was on the show to announce what he would be doing this year at WWE WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, Florida. Cena said he always hears the fans after every Raw, NXT and SmackDown and he knows that the fans are passionate about the future of WWE.
Cena said this year’s WrestleMania should go on without him. Cena said this is not a goodbye but it’s goodbye for now because it’s the right thing to do because he respects the work put in by the full-time WWE Superstars and WrestleMania spots should be earned and not demanded.
Cena said he doesn’t know when he will be back and he wanted to make this announcement in front of his family and friends in Boston. Cena’s music played and he walked up the ramp but the music stopped and the lights went out and then Bray Wyatt appeared on the stage behind Cena. Bray pointed at the WrestleMania sign and then Cena nodded and tipped his cap and seemingly accepted the challenge.
Here is the updated WrestleMania card:
WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar (Champion) vs. Drew McIntyre
WWE Universal Championship
Goldberg (Champion) vs. Roman Reigns
WWE NXT Women’s Championship
Rhea Ripley (Champion) vs. Charlotte Flair
WWE Raw Women’s Championship
Becky Lynch (Champion) vs. TBA
John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt
