The once-shelved live-action animated comedy “Coyote vs. Acme,” starring John Cena and Will Forte, has officially been saved and now has a theatrical release date. The film is now scheduled to be released in theaters on August 28, 2026.
From Shelved To Saved
The film was famously taken off the theatrical schedule by Warner Bros. in 2023 in what was reported as a cost-saving, tax write-off measure. The move was met with significant backlash from the film community. Earlier this year, in March 2025, the film was rescued by Ketchup Entertainment, who acquired the worldwide distribution rights.
“We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide,” Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West said in a statement. “Coyote vs. Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling.”
Cena’s Thoughts On The Film
Before the film was saved, John Cena had shared his thoughts on the situation, expressing his love for the project while understanding the business decision. While Cena is now a few years removed from the project, his star power has only grown.
He is currently the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion and is in the middle of a retirement tour that will see him defend the title against Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight at SummerSlam next weekend.
