John Layfield Is Still Under A WWE Legends Contract, WWE Has No Issue With Him Working For Other Promotions

John Bradshaw Layfield’s appearances in AAA, GCW, and TNA have sparked speculation that he might be coming out of retirement.

Layfield recently posted a photo of himself in the gym and he is clearly in the best physical shape he’s been in years. At 57 years old, a full-time return to the ring seems very unlikely but a one-off match is always a possibility especially now with wrestlers making more money than ever and several wrestlers over 50 being featured in high-profile matches in recent years.

According to PWInsider, Layfield is under a WWE Legends deal. So, while WWE can book him for appearances, he is free to work for other promotions as long as he’s not using the JBL gimmick that WWE owns. That is the reason why he’s been referred to as John Layfield and not John Bradshaw Layfield or JBL. Also, you will notice that he’s not dressed exactly as the JBL character when he makes non-WWE appearances.

PWI stated that WWE sources indicated that they have no issue with Layfield’s appearances. As for what this means for Layfield getting in the ring, there is no confirmation of whether that is the plan. Click below to check out the recent gym photo of Layfield.
