NXT Tag Team Champions Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa recently spoke with ESPN.com about their careers and more. During the interview, Gargano and Ciampa were asked about winning the NXT Tag Team Titles from The Revival at NXT Takeover: Toronto. Gargano said that winning the titles doesn’t seem real yet and that he doesn’t think that they live in moment like other people do. He believes that they’re going to look back at how they got to this moment and think that it’s pretty cool. Ciampa added that winning the tag team titles gives their careers a moment to hit the reset button and look back at the year and appreciate it.
When asked about joining WWE NXT, Gargano said that it’s something they both wanted. “You talk to any wrestler, and they want to be in this spot. NXT is the hottest thing going right now.” Ciampa said that there were no issues taking indy bookings when they started in NXT. They sensed that it was a sign of getting somewhat of confirmation by WWE that they were going to get signed to full-time deals. “A lot of times our opponents didn’t know. The promoters didn’t know. That was a tough four-to-six-week stretch, but once the announcement (signing with the company) was made, it was fun.” He noted that he enjoyed those last eight to 12 independent bookings because he appreciated them for what they were.”
