Former NXT Tag Team Champion Johnny Gargano made it known over the weekend that he was slated to make a return to EVOLVE.
The company is set to hold events on January 18th and 19th in the New York area, which is where Gargano will be competing. On Wednesday, WWE.com broke the news that he would be facing new EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory in a non-title match at EVOLVE 120 on January 19th. As of this writing, his opponent at EVOLVE 119 has yet to be announced but is expected to be revealed shortly.
Theory won the EVOLVE Title from NXT Superstar Fabian Aichner at last Saturday’s event when he won a Triple Threat Match that also featured Roderick Strong.
Aichner, EVOLVE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits, WWN Champion JD Drake, Anthony Henry, Darby Allin, AR Fox with Ayla & The Skulk, Eddie Kingston, Josh Briggs, Joe Gacy, BSHP KNG, Curt Stallion and Priscilla Kelly are advertised to work these two EVOLVE events.
Prior to signing with the WWE and placed in their developmental system, he worked for EVOLVE from 2009 to 2016. During his run with the company, he held the EVOLVE Tag Team Championships along with current WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre.
