Kalisto says mentally he was in a bad place in 2019, why a mask vs. mask match against Rey Mysterio didn’t happen

Former WWE star Kalisto was interviewed on Chris Van Vliet’s YouTube channel/podcast to talk about his release, Lucha House Party, and more. He also talked about going through a rough time personally in 2019. He also said that he had an idea before he got released for a mask vs mask match against Rey Mysterio:

“My story is all over the place. Me being injured, I thought about so much. When I was driving, I was in a bad place. I even thought about driving off tracks sometime because no matter what I did, it was like, ‘What can I do? What can I do to make people happy?’ Then I realized I myself am not happy.  I have to change. I have to stop thinking about what people are thinking about me, and just think about myself. I’ve never done that. I’ve always been nice. I’ve always done everything right by the book, and I worked so hard. Vince even told me that. He said, ‘You’re such a hard worker.’ We’ve always had a good relationship. I just wished we talked more, but we just didn’t get that chance. That was one of my biggest regrets.

My biggest regret is not going back to Vince and pitching him my idea that I had. Pretty much the whole world knew except for Vince. A mask vs mask against Rey. I had Rey’s blessing, Dominick’s blessing, everyone. They all loved the idea. Paul Heyman, I showed it to Paul, and he said, ‘This is genius.  Go do it.’ It’s something that is such a good story. I don’t want to reveal it, but it’s that good, that it’s my biggest regret, not talking to Vince about it.  Right before I was going to talk to him, the following week was when I got released. I had such a great story that nobody would have expected it. For Paul Heyman to say that’s genius, to me, that says I have something. I showed it to Daniel Bryan and Edge, and they loved it.”
