Former WWE Champion Kane spoke about the reasoning behind his decision to work the WWE Crown Jewel event despite the public backlash.
Kane and The Undertaker lost to Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a tag team match at the WWE Crown Jewel special on November 2nd, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the King Saud University Stadium that aired on WWE’s streaming service, WWE Network.
At the time, WWE had come under some heat because of their relationship with the Saudi Arabian government after it was reported that the government ordered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Despite this, WWE continued with their plans to hold the show in the country.
During a Reddit AMA earlier today, Kane talked about why he decided to go through with wrestling at the show.
“Because WWE donated $100,000 to the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation which was arranged long before the controversy. I made a commitment to our local first responders, and I wasn’t willing to break that.”
